General:ESOTU Console Launch Update
Originally published June 12, 2015. The original article can be found here.
Yesterday, we launched The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 worldwide.
Update as of Friday, June 11th: While we are still encountering an overwhelming demand to play ESOTU on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, we are working around the clock to resolve any remaining login issues and increase server capacity. During peak times, you should expect to be placed into a queue with a wait time of up to one hour. Please note that the queue screen does not currently display your proper place in line or estimated wait time, but you are indeed in queue; this is just a display error, and will be fixed later tonight (6/12.)
If you've submitted a ticket to our Customer Support Team, please understand that there may be a delay in response. We're working as quickly as possible to respond!
We apologize for the frustration this may be causing, but will continue working hard to ensure everyone can begin their adventure in Tamriel as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued patience and support!
[edit]
The amount of participation in launch has been overwhelming, with veteran players helping new, many helpful fan-created guides released, and tons of people livestreaming the game on Twitch. We've been humbled by all of your comments saying how much you are loving the game. For the first time in the franchise's award-winning history, console players – all over the world – are able to experience the Elder Scrolls with friends.
But a note of apology. At launch, millions of players around the world were eager to explore Tamriel. The overwhelming demand caused delays for some players trying to log in. We jumped on the problem, but we're truly sorry for any frustration or inconvenience any of you are experiencing. We are working around the clock to address these issues.
Below are short explanations of the top console launch-related things we're working on, and the status of each.
Login Errors: We believe the general login errors some of you have been experiencing have now been resolved. These errors were due to the overwhelming launch demands on our Xbox One and PlayStation®4 megaservers, particularly during peak hours. Instead of getting a general login error, you will now correctly be placed in the login queue.
Server Capacity: While we have established large data centers to support a huge player population, the millions of active players now in ESOTU may require increased server capacity to reduce queues and alleviate any server performance issues. This is being investigated as a priority for us.
Queuing System Display: Our login queuing system is currently displaying the incorrect wait time and queue placement. This is purely a visual display bug that will be fixed in our next patch—the queuing system does work. Once you're in the queue, please do not leave the queue, close the game client, or otherwise navigate away from this screen. You will load into Tamriel as soon as you reach the front of the queue.
You may also wish to consider creating a character on the Xbox One or PlayStation®4 European megaserver, as peak times and related server capacity are different for North America and Europe. (If you do this, please keep in mind that characters cannot be moved from one megaserver to another and that Crown Store purchases are tied to the megaserver on which that they are made.)
Other Issues: We are also actively investigating a number of smaller-impact in-game issues, and will provide updates to each in our Known Issues thread on the official forums as we have them.
Thank you all for joining us for the console launch of ESOTU, and bearing with us through the bumps along the way. We appreciate your support and thank you for your patience.
