Team Fortress 2 (or TF2) is a 2007 team-based multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve Software. A cosmetic item called the Dragonborn Helmet was added to the game on August 3, 2011 and given to players who pre-ordered The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Steam before 10AM PDT on August 8, 2011. This hat, originally called the Tamrielic Relic, can be worn by the Heavy, one of the playable nine classes, and can still be obtained through crafting, random drops, direct purchase, trading, and unboxing crates. It is based off the iconic Iron Helmet worn by the Last Dragonborn in promotional material for Skyrim.

Notes[edit]

  • The files for the Dragonborn Helmet are found in the all_class folder in the VPK files, suggesting it was originally designed to be worn by all classes. It also had the code for paint to be applied to it, but this was never implemented
  • The name for this item references the concept of Dragonborn, a mortal born with the blood/soul of a dragon, as it is worn by the Last Dragonborn. The item's original name referenced the continent of Tamriel, where Skyrim is located, until it was changed on August 9, 2011. It was also called "Skyrim's Iron Helmet" in an early promo.
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was not available for pre-order in Russia and the United Kingdom, originally preventing customers in these regions from earning the item in Genuine quality. They could however later obtain it in Genuine quality through trading.
  • Coincidentally, both Redguard and Team Fortress 2 contain references to singer Tom Jones.
