Association with Hillgrund's Steading[edit]
Is there any actual source that clearly associates Hillgrund's Steading with Ivarstead? The Holdings of Jarl Gjalund only state it's at the base of the Throat of the World, but that doesn't mean Ivarstead automatically. Riverwood also lies at the base of the same mountain. It seems more likely that Hillgrund's Steading is a by now lost settlement close to the extant Skyrim:Hillgrund's Tomb to the north.--176.52.202.190 08:41, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- I'm also skeptical. Hillgrund's Tomb seems like the best evidence, being so close to Ivarstead, but according to the Prima guide, Hillgrund's Tomb is located in Whiterun, not the Pale, hinting it was perhaps moved during development. And there can be more than one Hillgrund anyways. Assuming Hillgrund's Steading corresponds to a modern settlement at all, Helgen would seem like a better candidate than Ivarstead. Like Hillgrund's Steading, Helgen was known for mead and is basically at the foot of the Throat of the World. Helgen is also much closer to traditional Whiterun territory, where Jarl Gjalund's other holdings are centered, and it's easier to imagine "Hillgrund" evolving into "Helgen" over the years. I don't think the page should speculate. Insignificant RevisionsThreats•Evidence 17:37, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- The connection appears solid enough based on three things. The first is that its at the base of the Throat of the World, and though there might be other towns that fit this criteria Ivarstead is the only one that grants access to the steps. The second is that even if Hillgrund's Tomb isn't right next to Ivarstead its still the closest town to the tomb, way more than Helgen or Riverwood. The third is that namewise, Hillgrund's Steading is closest to Ivarstead. All of these combined appear to give the connection enough weight. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:07, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
