Banus Alor

Banus Alor is a Dark Elf assassin and Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood's Black Hand. He is killed by Mathieu Bellamont at the end of the quest Honor Thy Mother. Banus will only appear in the game once you initiate the quest Following a Lead.

He wears the befitting Black Hand robes with a matching hood. He also carries a brown shirt, a pair of light brown linens and a pair of doeskin shoes. He carries an unenchanted iron longsword as his only weapon, and a middling amount of gold.

When the Black Hand descend into the Night Mother's crypt during the Honor Thy Mother quest, Banus is removed from the Dark Brotherhood faction and added to the DarkBrotherhoodRitualFaction instead.

Quest-Related Events

Following a Lead

Banus is first encountered at Applewatch after you discover some disturbing evidence about the Brotherhood's traitor, and head back to report your findings to Lucien Lachance. However, you were too late as Banus and the other remaining members of the Black Hand have already brutally executed Lucien, who they believed to be traitor.

Speaking to Banus at Applewatch will have him greet you by saying:

"May we forever serve the Night Mother."

He will also assure you that things will improve as soon as you visit the Night Mother:

"Our troubles are almost at an end, Brother/Sister. Soon we will visit the Night Mother, and she will surely guide us."

Asking him about Lucien Lachance will have him happily reminisce on the experience of slaying him;

"The four of us attacking him in unison was as graceful and beautiful as a ballet! The flashing of steel, the spraying of blood!"

When exiting conversation, he will simply say:

"Sithis be with you."

Honor Thy Mother

Banus, alongside the other survivors of the Black Hand will travel to Bravil in order to seek guidance from the Night Mother. Once the members have performed the incantation at the statue of the Lucky Old Lady, a door will be revealed to the Crypt of the Night Mother. There, it becomes clear that the Brotherhood's troubles are not yet over, as Arquen speaks with the Night Mother and the traitor Mathieu Bellamont reveals himself by cutting down Banus and Belisarius Arius.

Rumors

After completion of the questline, one of the new Dark Brotherhood Murderers will ask a macabre question when asked for rumors:

"I... I heard what they did to Lucien Lachance... Is it true that Arquen feasted on his entrails?"

Notes

• In the game, it is stated that Banus is a Speaker of the Black Hand. However, in the Construction Set, Banus is only listed as a Murderer in the Dark Brotherhood. The information listed in the summary box is the Construction Set faction, because this is the information that controls the NPC's disposition, dialogue, and responses to scripts; see Factions for details.
• Banus is the only member of the Black Hand survivors to carry spare clothing besides the robes he wears.
