Mehrunes' Harbinger

Mehrunes' Harbinger is a non-hostile Dremora encountered within Mingo Cave during the related quest. She is essential and immune to damage.

As part of the quest, she will grant you a zero-cost Summon Mehrunes' Harbinger spell. This spell will allow you to summon her at any time to request Cataclysm armor and weapons.

Related Quests[edit]

Dialogue[edit]

Mehrunes' Harbinger has the same greeting as other Dremora:

"Be quick about it, mortal."

Quest-Related Events[edit]

The Crimson Cave[edit]

The Harbinger will first be encountered within Mingo Cave during the Deluxe Edition quest The Crimson Cave. She can be found standing next to a caged Imperial Legion Soldier, surrounded by three members of the Mythic Dawn.

If you have chosen to infiltrate the Mythic Dawn meeting, she will approach you:

"Come, mortal. Our Prince's power is close. Bow to the will of Mehrunes Dagon and take this puny imperial life to assert your hatred of the Septims."
Imperial Guard
"Light the pyre! Prove your worth, mortal."

If you choose to kill the soldier:

"You have greatly pleased my Lord. You will act as a herald of His coming and wear His attire!"

If you kill the Mythic Dawn members:

"Amusing. I enjoyed seeing you bring disaster to those that were too weak to follow Lord Dagon and did not protect themselves from you. While you may think you oppose Him, He is eternal and will always prevail."

Either way, she will continue:

"The Sovereign of Destruction offers you equipment befitting someone as bloodthirsty as yourself. Crafting it is beyond mortal abilities hence you'll need to summon me whenever you need a new one."

She will then grant you a spell to summon her, before disappearing. You will need to summon her at least once to complete the quest. Doing so will let you ask for the following:

Equipment
"Which of my Lord's boons do you require this time?"
I'd like a weapon
"A meaningless choice. Be more specific."
I prefer Blade weapons
"With what do you want to cut down your foes?"
A Claymore "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Dagger "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Longsword "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Shortsword "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
All of them "Enjoy the might of Mehrunes. What else do you want?"
I prefer Blunt weapons
"With what do you want to crush your foes?"
A Battle-Axe "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Mace "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A War Axe "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Warhammer "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
I'd like all of them "Enjoy the might of Mehrunes. What else do you want?"
I prefer Bows "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
I'd like an armor piece
"A meaningless choice. Be more specific."
I prefer Heavy Armor
"Which heavy armor piece do you want to soften your enemies' blows?"
I prefer Light Armor
"With which light armor piece do you want to sneak and murder?"
A Cuirass "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Helmet "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
A Shield "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
All of them "Enjoy the might of Mehrunes. What else do you want?"
Boots "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
Gauntlets "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
Greaves "Take it, mortal. Do you dare ask for more?"
Nevermind "I will allow you to ask for more items later."

Notes[edit]

  • Aside from certain generic Dremora Markynaz enemies, she is the only female Dremora in the game. She is also the only female Dremora with significant dialogue; in the original release, female Dremora had no recorded voice lines and were therefore mute.
  • Mehrunes' Harbinger can be summoned in Henatier's Dreamworld, granting the player access to weapons and armor while completing the quest Through A Nightmare, Darkly.
