Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
The Vinicius family have long held stewardship over Anvil's Fighters Guild, and many family members are part of it. Palagrius' son, Rufrius Vinicius, has only recently joined - and the guildmaster wishes to test his mettle. Speak to Palagrius for orders, and you will be directed to join Rufrius at the ruin of Salinen.
You may have passed Salinen on your way to Salthearth in Repossess and Return. To reach it, follow the Gold Road out of Anvil, passing over two bridges and beyond the ruin of Lindasael. Continue to follow the road over a third bridge, and as you continue walking along it, you will see Salinen on your right.
Rufrius waits for you by the entrance. Speak to him, and he'll reveal that he's having second thoughts about this job - believing Ayleid ruins to be cursed. He'll ask that you lie to Palagrius, telling the old man that Rufrius went in. You can either agree to this, or encourage Rufrius to join you in the dungeon delve. Either way, you're going to need to go inside Salinen to get the proof requested by Palagrius - an Ayleid Knife. You'll find such a knife in one of the southwestern rooms, on a stone slab next to an opened Ayleid coffer. Rufrius will speak to you as you enter the correct room, and will stop following you from this point (if he came in in the first place).
With the knife in your possession, return to Palagrius. He'll want to know how Rufrius acquitted himself. If Rufrius did not enter Salinen, and you tell him the truth, you will take a large -40 disposition hit, and Palagrius will tell you to leave. You aren't expelled, but will receive no reward. If however you tell him (truthfully or otherwise) of how Rufrius entered the ruin and give him the Ayleid Knife as proof, Palagrius will be puffing with pride, and will grant you the Ring of Rapid Bulwark as a reward.
