Kinlady Earlenque Corelanya the Great, previously known simply as Lady Earlenque Corelanya, was the founder of the Corelanya realm on Solstice and served as the matriarch of the Corelanya Clan during their exodus to the island.[2] She was also the first to assume the mantle of Kinlady of Sunport.[1]
History[edit]
Summerset[edit]
Little is known about Earlenque's early life, other than that she was born sometime before 1E 853. She oversaw the Corelanya estates that remained in Summerset, remnants of the house's broader mercantile empire maintained throughout their three centuries of rule in Hammerfell. In 1E 853, after the fall of Salas En and the death of her cousin Kinlady Iniel, who left no direct heirs, Earlenque assumed leadership of the clan.[2]
Two years later, in 1E 855, the survivors of Salas En returned to Summerset, joined by Corelanyas from other distant outposts that had become untenable following the collapse of their realm. Seeking to reclaim their lost lands, Lady Earlenque appealed to High King Naurnindon for military support. Though the king expressed sympathy for fellow Altmer displaced by the Ra Gada, he was unwilling to provoke open conflict with such a formidable enemy. Political constraints made war impractical, and the lingering shadow of Kinlady Iniel's legacy, her open dealings with the Daedra and use of necromancy further discouraged Naurnindon, who feared compromising his own authority by championing the Corelanya cause. This uneasy situation persisted for quite some time, as the Altmer, when reluctant to make a decision, can spend decades crafting new ways to say not yet or that it would be unwise to act too quickly. After years of frustration, Lady Earlenque quietly shifted her efforts toward one of the High King's rivals, Kinlady Arlinwe of Firsthold. She hoped to support a new ruler who would pledge to aid the Corelanyas in reclaiming their lost lands.[2]
Lady Earlenque's plans unraveled when her ally, Arlinwe, acted too aggressively against the High King and failed in her attempt to replace him. In the aftermath, several noble houses associated with Kinlady Arlinwe fell from favor, including the Corelanyas. In 1E 909, High King Naurnindon withdrew his support and gave Earlenque a stark choice: she could either surrender her titles and lands or accept exile. Deeply humiliated, Lady Earlenque chose exile. Many of Arlinwe's former allies saw wisdom in aligning with the Corelanyas and departed Summerset alongside them.[2]
Solstice[edit]
And so we came to our new home." —History of Clan Corelanya by Regent Karinwe Corelanya[2]
Though Clan Corelanya had long since lost their holdings in and around Hammerfell, they still retained control over a few scattered harbors. Determined to lead her people away from the reach of both the Ra Gada and a hostile High King in Summerset, Lady Earlenque set her sights on founding a realm-in-exile. Among the remnants of their old mercantile network, one location stood out for its seclusion and potential—Solstice, an island first discovered by her cousin two centuries earlier.[2]
In the autumn of 1E 909, Earlenque's fleet arrived in Sunport Bay, near the site of an old outpost once established by Iniel. The location offered natural defenses against western threats, a sheltered harbor, and the added protection of treacherous surrounding waters. Rumors of ancient curses, likely tied to the island's long-standing Daedric presence, only deepened its value as a secure refuge. Fortunately for the exiles, the area around Sunport had become sparsely populated by the time of their arrival. The more advanced Stone-Nest tribes dwelled in stone cities on the island's eastern side, while the western coast was home to the Tide-Born villagers living simple lives along the shore. Declaring herself Kinlady of Sunport, Earlenque Corelanya began the work of building a new realm for her displaced clan.[1]
Cautious not to provoke their more numerous neighbors, Kinlady Earlenque restricted Corelanya settlement to Sunport and its surrounding lands. Her efforts centered on strengthening the city's defenses and allowing her people time to recover and rebuild. The Argonians of Solstice, being pragmatic, were willing to coexist peacefully. Though true friendship was rare between the communities, outright conflict was avoided. This uneasy peace endured throughout her lifetime. Earlenque passed away in 1E 1017.[1]
Legacy[edit]
Matriarch, exile, founder of the realm. Honored be her name." —Tombs of the Kinrulers[3]
Following her death, she was succeeded as the leader of the Clan Corelanya by her son Orlemar.[1] Earlenque was laid to rest in the Corelanya Crypt and remembered as a matriarch, an exile, and the founder of the realm. Her name was honored, and she was held in reverence.[3] Earlenque features prominently in History of Clan Corelanya, authored by Regent Karinwe, the leader of Clan Corelanya during the Interregnum.[2][1]
