High King Naurnindon was an Altmer ruler of the Summerset Isles, active during the Ra Gada arrival to Tamriel.[1]

History[edit]

Alinor

Little is known about Naurnindon's life and reign, except that he was already actively ruling by 1E 855, when Corelanya refugees from the fallen city of Salas En returned to their ancestral homeland of Summerset. Throughout the three centuries of Corelanya presence in Hammerfell, the house had retained a handful of holdings in Summerset as part of their broader mercantile empire. It was to these remnants that the survivors of Salas En returned in 1E 855. Corelanyas from other overseas outposts, made untenable by the collapse of their realm, also retreated homeward. However, the High King was not particularly welcoming, given the clan's known history of Daedra worship.[1]

Kinlady Earlenque Corelanya the Great,[2] who oversaw the remaining Corelanya estates in Summerset and assumed leadership of the clan after Iniel Corelanya's death, appealed to High King Naurnindon for aid, hoping to reclaim Corelanya lands with the backing of Summerset's armies. While the High King was sympathetic to the Altmer who had suffered during the Ra Gada invasion, he hesitated to wage war against such a formidable and relentless enemy. Politically, the prospect was untenable. The legacy of Kinlady Iniel Corelanya, Earlenque's predecessor, further weakened their cause. Tales of Iniel's Daedric pacts and blatant use of necromancy had returned with the refugees, and Naurnindon feared that supporting them might endanger his own standing. This uneasy situation persisted for quite some time, as the Altmer, when reluctant to make a decision, can spend decades crafting new ways to say not yet or that it would be unwise to act too quickly. After years of frustration, Lady Earlenque quietly shifted her efforts toward one of the High King's rivals, Kinlady Arlinwe of Firsthold. She hoped to support a new ruler who would pledge to aid the Corelanyas in reclaiming their lost lands.[1]

Lady Earlenque's plans unraveled when her ally, Arlinwe, acted too aggressively against the High King and failed in her attempt to replace him. In the aftermath, several noble houses associated with Kinlady Arlinwe fell from favor, including the Corelanyas. In 1E 909, High King Naurnindon withdrew his support and gave Earlenque a stark choice: she could either surrender her titles and lands or accept exile. Deeply humiliated, Lady Earlenque chose exile. Many of Arlinwe's former allies saw wisdom in aligning with the Corelanyas and departed Summerset alongside them,[1] ultimately settling on the island of Solstice. Little is known of Naurnindon's policies and rule following that event.[1][3]
