Depiction of Veloth leading the Chimer to Morrowind
"I cannot say how our distant ancestors came to Summerset. All I know is they first entered the annals of history when Saint Veloth lived and taught in Summerset. My distant ancestor, an Aldmeri kinlady named Valarmil Corela, fell in with the great prophet. She followed Veloth throughout the troubled years when the Sapiarchs and the high king sought to suppress his movement." —History of Clan Corelanya, Pt. 1 by Regent Karinwe Corelanya[1]

Kinlady Valarmil Corela was an Aldmer noblewoman and the earliest Corelanyan in recorded history, and a loose follower of Saint Veloth who chose not to join his exodus.[1]

Summerset Isles

Reign[edit]

Valarmil Corela was a contemporary of Saint Veloth and an early adherent to his teachings.[1][nb 1] She followed the prophet during the turbulent years when the Sapiarchs and the High King sought to suppress his growing movement. When Saint Veloth ultimately chose to lead his followers eastward, seeking a land where they could freely practice their beliefs, what would become Morrowind, not all of his disciples chose to follow. Some, bound by comfort, kinship, or duty, remained behind in Summerset. Kinlady Corela was among them. Though she and her household did not join the exodus, they continued to quietly uphold the tenets of Veloth's faith in private, even as the worship of Daedra fell into disfavor across the isles in the aftermath of the Velothi departure.[1]

Legacy[edit]

Centuries passed, and though Velothi beliefs were increasingly suppressed, the descendants of Kinlady Corela endured. The Corelanya Clan grew into a noble house of considerable wealth, influence, and martial strength. Yet their quiet devotion to the Daedric powers remained a persistent political liability. No High King trusted the Corelanyas enough to grant them a fiefdom, and their religious convictions left them vulnerable to scrutiny.[1]

Following the Alessian Slave Rebellion, High King Tenalarion enacted a harsh new edict banning Velothi worship outright. Facing the possibility of confiscation of their lands and the imprisonment of their leaders, the Corelanyas chose exile over submission. In the year 1E 522, under the leadership of Sundavar Corelanya, a descendant of Valarmil, Clan Corelanya departed Summerset to start their own realm in Hammerfell.[1]

Valarmil Corela features prominently in History of Clan Corelanya, authored by Regent Karinwe, the leader of Clan Corelanya during the Interregnum.[1]

Notes[edit]

^1 The exact date of the Velothi exodus is unclear, with some sources placing it in the Middle Merethic Era,[2][3] and others as early as the Dawn Era.[4][5] Some scholarly accounts emphasize this discrepancy.[6]
