It is categorized as a common ingredient, meaning that all apothecary merchants have a 36% chance of carrying 1-5 samples. In addition, it may be randomly found in some barrels and in apothecary's satchels. Other possible locations for already-harvested samples include:

• The three dead skeletons found during the quest Unbound always carry bone meal.
• The burned corpses found at the Western Watchtower in the quest Dragon Rising always carry bone meal.

Creatures

Bone meal is always dropped by dragon priests, including all of the named dragon priests who carry masks. Nearly all other types of undead have a 25% chance of dropping bone meal, with the exception of ghosts (who drop ectoplasm) and zombies^CC (who drop mort flesh) . This includes all varieties of draugr, skeleton, corrupted shade and wrathmen^DG, as well as numerous named undead creatures and already-dead versions of the creatures.

Notes

• There is a unique version of bone meal named Berit's Ashes that shares the same properties as regular bone meal. Combining these two ingredients will therefore result in all four effects being discovered at once.
